whoever, at avex, is responsible for the promotion of past < future is either really dumb, or avex is dealing with the economy crisis, otherwise i cant explain why the leading jpop singer in japan would have her album drop at position 3 in the second week only.
anyway, i believe the album is still going to beat the sells of play which were about 500,000 if im not wrong so it would be a success (for them) after all.

Go Namie! <3

I agree, I do like some of the songs in the album, but it kind of felt more like a "bank off of Namie's growing popularity" album more than a real one for me. It doesn't even seem like she is going to do any promotion for this album on TV shows >_<. I kind of wish they had taken their time to release more from this album rather than just shooting out a bunch of PVs for it within the last few months before the album was released >_< Especially here in Asia, I think having an album without a lot of holding power can really hurt your popularity, but like the person above said, it could just be a reflection of the economy.

Well, Past<Future is having better sales than Play on its first week and in total sales, by now. Surprising that the new album has not produced higher positions on the oricon chart, probably because #1 and #2 of this week have very good sales, better than the 2007 sales when Play was on the chart. Don´t you think?
How many copies sold Play on its second week?

Hope it will increase sales with tv live or something else before the tour in April. Past<Future deserves better sales and new records for Namie, is such a good as Play, or even better, to me!

Great Namie!

Ya though this album is full of great songs, but the lack of singles and promotion clearly reflect the sale number.

Though you can compare the sale of Play to that of Past<Future, I still think they are not on the same level, espeically Past<Future. is released after the success of Best Fiction. So naturally, Past<Future would sell more than Play and I personally believe it is one of the major reasons for realeasing this alubm so soon.

Nevertheless, I still support Namie.

Looking on the bright side, I don't think theres anything wrong with the sales at all. Considering this is the end of the year and people are saving money for the New Year Holidays and more than that, saving money for the next year, I don't think they would bother to buy anything. And for an album with almost no promotion exept for very few radio talks and 4 PVs, this sales number is really good. After two weeks, Namie already outsold Ayumi's Next Level and Koda Kumi's Trick, which all had heavy promotion beforehand. Another thing I can see is that her sales numbers for the second week days were very steady and seemed to increase. So I believe the sales will continue to be good in the next weeks and she'll be able to break the 500,000 mark.

No, i think everything is going fine right now... she still outselling every other female artist for 2009 including Ayumi.

And the fact that she hasnt appeared on any shows could be a personal choice of Namie, not Avex.

And Original Studio Albums usually dont last on the 1# chart position for more than a week so shes doing pretty good

well to everyone who thinks Avex does all of Namie's promotion, I think they have nothing to do with it. I'm pretty sure her management company Vision Vactory deals with her promotions and everything she does like live performances, tv appearances, concerts, ect. Namie only releases under Avex, and I think her album is doing great, as stated above, for it having no promotion and no singles, it almost outsold PLAY within 2 weeks, and PLAY had plenty of singles and promotion, i think Namie will do tv performances and such when the new year comes, she may be resting and getting ready for PAST<FUTURE TOUR, and I love her new album, but then again I love everything she releases! lol

the low sales for PAST<FUTURE are the result for no TV promotion. The reason why she hasn't preform on TV is not based on the economy because Koda Kumi and Ayumi hamasaki are promoting on many TV channels. In my opinion PAST<FUTURE deserves better, it had amazing tracks and 4 PV's. As long as she surpasses play it doesn't really matter what she sales after. Artist gain their popularity back step by step not out of the blues.

^I agree. I think if she performed on tv more sales would be more steady... I don't know why she hasn't done that in a while...
Also, releasing singles instead of a bunch of pvs close to the release date might have helped too...? dunno.

Still, it's pretty common to have a huge drop in the second week sales... happens to many artists, so I'm still ok ^^. And this will definitely pass PLAY :)
