Catch Namie Amuro in Singapore for one night only on April 26th at the Singapore Indoor Stadium!
Often referred to as the “teen queen” or “Queen of Japanese Pop Music”, Namie Amuro has made a permanent mark on the Japanese music scene. Having started out with teen pop group Super Monkeys at just 15 years old, it didn’t take long for her to find her own footing as a solo artist. Her first single was “Body Feels EXIT”, followed by “Chase the Chance” released just two months later, becoming her first number-one million-selling single for which she also won the Golden Arrow Award 1995.
She soon peppered the airwaves with top singles such as “Don't wanna cry,” "You're My Sunshine," and "a walk in the park" all of which sold over a million copies each. In 1996, Amuro won the Grand Prix Award for "Don't wanna cry", the highest honor at the Japan Record Awards, making her the youngest artist to have won the award. In 1997, her single "CAN YOU CELEBRATE?" sold 2.29 million copies, making it the best-selling single by a solo female artist in Japan.
After a short hiatus, she returned to the music scene as bold as ever with the hit "I HAVE NEVER SEEN", which was also used as the dorama Yonige-ya Honpo's theme song. Taking a turn towards R&B she released "SOMETHING 'BOUT THE KISS" produced by US producer Dallas Austin. Since reinventing herself as a hip-pop singer with her sixth studio album “Queen of Hip-Pop”, Amuro has achieved new-found fame and popularity. Her seventh album “PLAY” debuted at the top of the charts, and was followed by "60s 70s 80s.” In 2010, she performed at “World Music Awards” as the first Asian female artist, and was awarded “BEST ASIAN ARTIST”.
Over a decade after her debut, Amuro has remained one of the most popular female acts in Japan. Her greatest hits album, “BEST FICTION,” spent six consecutive weeks at the number-one position on Japan's Oricon weekly charts, and was awarded "Best Album of the Year" at the 50th Japan Record Awards. Marking the 20th anniversary of her career, in April 2012, it was announced that Namie Amuro would release a new album, “Uncontrolled.” This was the first album to feature several songs sung entirely in English. The album spent three weeks at number one on Oricon's albums chart and was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of Japan. This is her fifth consecutive number one album since 2007, and her sixth consecutive double platinum album since 2005. 2013 will see the release of a DVD covering her 2012 5 Major Domes Tour.
