She's just perfect! And her vocal here is way better than on the BEST FICTION show.

Wow this is really good! I can't tell that she had Chorditis prior~. And the long lost vibrato :DDD!

Such a good (and expressive xD) performance!
Can't wait for the rest of the concert!!

Motionless namie is back to us. No offense to namie's protectors but namie is back to where she started. A great performer who lacks emotion. To be honest namie is one of my favorite artist because she has talent but sometimes she looks bored and forced to be an artist. The girl barely performs or shows any sign she wants to be an artist. Sometimes she makes me wanna cry because I feel like she doesn't care for her fans :( . Ive been supporting our queen for ten years and not once I felt loved by her. Sorry I just feel so frustrated.

i know what you mean...no smile in the whole perfomance...kind of sad. her presence lacks of energy!
anyway i like her a lot and i think her live skills have improved!

Overall I agree to the previous comments, but it's not like she never ever shows any emotions. In her former performances she was very cute, like in these:

I agre with you, we really have the impression that she don't love her fans but in her previous tour she smiled a lot and was giving more emotions to fans. I think it's may be due to her personnal life because she dated a man but now that she's single she must not be as happy as she was last year. I really wish this concert will give more emotion than previous ones because the album was very good.

I'm not complaining because she has said she doesn't wanna do TV performances anymore if she doesn't need to because it reduces the anticipation for her tours in her eyes. and she also said she wouldn't sing anymore if she couldn't tour because thats the only reason she releases albums, so she can sing the songs live. she loves her fans but in Namie's eyes, her not smiling is her composing herself to be appropriate for the song being sung, if it was meant to be a cute song, then she would be smiley, and another thing is in the BEST FICTION Tour DVD the Fans were very energetic and it was an arena tour, so they made her smile a lot. and this is a hall tour, filmied in tokyo, have you viewed her other tokyo hall tours? the fans aren't as energetic as they are overseas and the space is limited, so without the fan energy she concentrates on the performance more and doesn't break away from it. I bet you when she sings Baby Don't Cry, and her other slower songs, she will be smiling throughout. thats just how namie performs and I like it, she looks like she gives a shit about the dance and vocals by keeping her cool. however I guess she could interact with the dancers more but she is shy and may feel uncomfortable doing that, another thing is she could bring the energy up more, but smilin wont bring energy up, involving the audience will. and also Namie didn't even meet the guy until BEST FICTION TOUR was over and they began dating in december. he had nothing to do with her mood then. and we don't know when they broke up or when this was filmed.

^ I agree with everything except the smiling part. We all love Namie but we gotta admit that she lacks emotion when she performs. The reason why Best Fiction was just an amazing tours was just because Namie smiled throughout the whole concert. When namie smiles the audience get hipper. I also agree with the person who said that she's a great performer who lacks emotions. The only reason why Namie has bad performances just like normal artists, is not because she doesn't work it, is because sometimes the performance is so boring because she doesn't show emotions that you gotta take it off.

This begining of the show remember to the Best Fiction tour, with Namie on a chair and a simple choreography, doesn´t look very spectacular. But that´s the way Best Fiction begun, the best came later, betters choreographies and Namie´s expressions, Shangai´s fans were spectacular, one of the best Namie´s DVD ever. Hope this can improve so much.

And i think Namie loves being an artist and her fans, is just she is very shy and seems unexpressive but she gives her best on stage, she has performed one of the most long tour and performed more than 2 hours and a half dancing and singing till she wants to cry, as she said in a Best Fiction Tour interview,,, It looks she got exhausted on that show. So she is a great artist, one of the best.

So much analysis based on one performance :P. I'm sure she will smile for the more light hearted songs that come later on. This is more of an edgy song lyric wise--she hardly ever smiles when performing songs like these (violet sauce, want me want me, etc).

Anyway I liked the performance, and her vocals were awesome ^^. I can understand why some ppl feel it lacks energy tho.

Haha I guess it's normal for people to want to see their favorite artist smiling and bouncing around all the time, but Namie has stated herself that she likes to have a "cool" image while performing most of her songs. I remember she had an interview a looong time ago about how she admired some singers who had a tough expression while singing and dancing. She thought it looked cool, so she wanted to have that kind of performance style also. That's why I don't really care if she is not smiling all the time :P Personally, I also don't think that image would fit some of the songs she sings.

i'm ok with her not smiling singing this song as fast car is a sexy n cool song. but if she still looks the same while singing songs like baby dont cry, i'll be a bit disappointed.
i remembered she cried while singing can we celebrate in a concert loooong time ago. it felt so genuine as if she's connected to the song. it moved me and its been very long since i've seen such emotion coming from her.
anyway, still love her lots

WHAT?! What I've come to appreciate about Namie is that witht he coy attitude comes a subtle allure. There's a sultry sparkle in her eyes through out the song.

Or what about the small smirk at 2:32.

The the subtle exasperation that she expresses through out the song? like at 2:53 (her vocal almost comes out as a sigh/grunt)

Or the slight show of *almost* desperation at 2:55 and then at 3:23 she's gaining her composure.

Some more exasperation is displayed with a upper body roll at 3:27.

Remember u guys, the roles in her songs are almost dominatrix and collected--not just a being of lust. That's where she's coming from. The lyrics are essentially speaking of fight for dominance. I think she embodied that characterization well.

nevertheless, i like smiling people...when i watched the best fiction tour i felt that there was no heart in most of her performances. but this is my poinion and no one has to share that. but i respect her dancing choreographies and how she sings so perfectly!

^ I don't understand what ur trying to say :P--she smiled soo much in Best Fiction tour and seemed really happy (she smiled at some point in most songs). She also seemed to try really hard even though she looked really tired in some parts (like the performance for sexy girl for example).

Maybe you meant another tour? :)

no i meant best fiction. it's just my overall impression. in some performances i thought there was no expression of fun in her face but maybe i should watch it again ;-) and it's right, a smile doesn't fit every song. but coming back to the fast car opening...i'm always so excited when the show begins and i got the feeling that she didn't share that excitement. let's see what the rest of the show has to offer. i won't judge her by one performance.

^ you obviously don't understand the difference between having fun, being happy, and putting on a show in where you are putting on a cool attitude. she is always having fun throughout her tours wether you see it or not, if she wasn't why would she have 80+ shows? and when she sings a song thats not about sex, power, or has an r&b style, she is smiling throughout the entire performance despite being very tired when the song comes on. fast car isn't about smiles and all around fun, its got a more adult feel to it so why would she smile during the performance? and once that curtain rises she is already in her cool adult attitude. Namie knows how to perform certain songs, smiles are present when appropriate and if she cracks one when they aren't she re-composes herself. she is not like those artist who smile when singing about sex and such, and if thats what you prefer those artists will always be there. this is and has been Namie's way of performing and the complaints are getting old people. I'm sure come next tour you will say the same thing like its something new.

i think it's useless to talk about this topic anymore because everyone has a different opinion about it. i don't wanna fight about it.it was just my impression and if someone thinks he or her impression is different, it's okay. i just only have to get used to namies way of performing!

Anonymous said...

^ i agree with you, but you guys have to understand that namie isn't a god. She's allowed to make mistakes while she preforms like a normal person. Some people say that it's her way of preforming but to be honest a hard core- emotionless attitude isn't cool. The truth is that her way of preforming is boring, i love her but she's not the best performer. A little smile doesn't hurt anyone. You can smile being cool and professional. there's no excuse to namie's boring look. That's the way our namie is, so people get over it. Either you like her or not
